Eligibility Criteria for STPI Registration
The following companies can make an application to establish an STPI in India -
- A company that is established in the country
- A foreign company that wants to start its operations in the country
- A branch office of a foreign company in the country
- Complete the STPI registration application form. This can usually be obtained from the official STPI website or the local STPI office. Once you successfully register, you will receive an ID and password in the registered email ID.
- Submit the completed application along with the required documents either online through the STPI portal or in person at the nearest STPI center. You need to login using your ID and password.

- Anywhere in the nation can host a STP unit.
- Foreign equity up to 100% is allowed.
- In the STP units, all imports of hardware and software are duty-free, and the importation of used capital items is also allowed.
- Capital goods may also be re-exported.
- It is acceptable to use a computer system for commercial training as long as no computer terminals are placed outside of STP's property.
- It is legal to sell goods inside the Domestic Tariff Area (DTA).
- A GST refund is available for the capital items that were acquired from the DTA.
- Foreign entrepreneurs' capital, know-how fees, royalties, dividends, and other amounts are freely reparable once any applicable income taxes have been paid.
- Depreciation on computers and computer accessories is 100% for a five-year period.
